A Boutique Wine Estate
What is boutique wine for starters? Quite a confusing term for many of us who are not familiar with the wine industry. In one of their blog posts, Eat Boutique attempts to solve the mystery behind boutique wines.
Against the Constantiaberg range of Table Mountain in Cape Town, rests the idyllic vineyards of Constantia Glen. A rare jewel of all wine farms in the Constantia, one of the oldest wine producing region in South Africa, for its naturally preserved beauty. In the main restaurant guests are sheltered from the ever-heating sun, yet can still admire the outdoor through the magnificent glass windows while sipping on their wines or simply enjoying a delicious meal from the menu, ranging from breakfast to dinner offerings.
‘Boutique’ may be associated to wines which originate from small wine farms which hold an “artisanal” or “cult” feel in their production business.
However, it is actually the passion that the winemaker exhibits towards his creations is what makes it enough to amount to boutique term. The implication justifying that there is indeed a “sense of purpose” in the wine-production business through the passion of creating wines foregrounds the essence of ’boutique-ness’.
The key to understanding the true meaning behind what makes a wine boutique really lies upon one’s own mindset about it.
Perhaps boutique is more a state of mind than a number of bottles. It’s more of an attitude than a location. Of course, this makes discovering boutique wines a bit more difficult.
